Tell Seattle City Council Democrats:
HANDS OFF OUR $15/HOUR MINIMUM WAGE VICTORY!
SIGN THE PETITION BELOW!
Seattle’s Democratic Councilmembers, led by District 3’s Joy Hollingsworth, are attempting to undermine the historic $15/hour minimum wage victory won by workers and former City Councilmember, socialist Kshama Sawant.
Earlier this summer, the Democrats proposed legislation that would've frozen a lower-tier wage for well over 200,000 workers, denying them at least $3/hour of wages starting next year! We organized and forced the Democrats to temporarily back off! But we need to continue to fight back.
This is an attack on all workers, both in and outside Seattle. Seattle’s $15 victory was the first in a major city, and was won in 2014 by the 15 NOW movement, workers, union members, and Kshama’s Council office. With inflation adjustments, Seattle's minimum wage today is the nation's highest, at nearly $20/hour. We won then despite opposition by the Democratic Councilmembers. Now they are, yet again, doing the bidding of exploitative corporations and the capitalists. If they can undermine Seattle’s historic minimum wage victory, it will open the door to more attacks by big business in Seattle and in other cities across the country.
WE DEMAND:
Seattle City Council publicly pledge: NO attacks on our $15/hour minimum wage victory
A Real Raise – a $25/hour minimum wage
Good Union Jobs for All — we need to rebuild a fighting labor movement that can defend our victories and fight for more
