NYC | Biden has blood on his hands: The uncommitted vote and the need for a new party

  • Restoration Plaza 1368 Fulton Street Brooklyn, NY, 11216 United States (map)

Almost 70% of Americans support an immediate ceasefire. Despite posturing from Biden about needing to scale back the offensive and providing aid, both corporate parties, Democrat and Republican, are in full agreement about continuing to bankroll Israel’s murderous war. In protest, over 100,000 voters in the Michigan Democratic primary chose ‘Uncommitted’ instead of Biden, with more states following. This is a major step in showing the Democrats that they can’t take our support for granted, but now #AbandonBiden needs to go even further—to win a ceasefire and pose a real threat to the two corporate parties, the anti-war movement needs our own independent political party that can harness the organized power of working people, students, and activists everywhere!

A new party will need the active participation of the labor movement, and unions have a central role in ending the war. In California, Belgium, Italy, and elsewhere, dockworkers have refused to transport or have blocked arms to Israel—this must be urgently expanded and linked to a struggle beyond individual workplaces. Many unions around the country have passed resolutions in support of a ceasefire, often led by rank-and-file efforts including from Workers Strike Back members! In order to give these resolutions real substance, Workers Strike Back calls on unions to refuse to endorse strikebreaker Biden in this year’s election, or to rescind their endorsements, and commit to building a new party. UAW president Shawn Fain’s endorsement of Biden, and his recent appearance at Biden’s latest State of the Union speech, shows that a break from the Democratic Party won’t come from the tops of union leadership, who have been tied to the Democratic Party for years. Building a real challenge to the two-party system will require rank-and-file mobilization and organization.

Join Workers Strike Back at our community speakout to rally against the war and discuss how we can fight for a ceasefire and more by building a new party to challenge the bipartisan war machine! RSVP below.
