Like working and young people across the nation, University of Missouri students and workers are reeling under the cost of living crisis.

Graduate students are part of the backbone of the research and teaching that the university relies on for its reputation while undergrad students run the essential services on campus along with other workers. Yet, they are paid very low wages, often as low as $2,000-$2,200/month. Many graduate students have families with young children, and have been told by the administration to go to the local food bank for assistance! Undergraduate student workers are also grossly underpaid at $8-$11/hour, even though they do essential work to make the university run. Meanwhile, the UM System has a $2 billion endowment and pays President Choi nearly $1 million/year.

University of Missouri Students & Workers United stands in solidarity with the antiwar movement on UM campuses and nationwide. We condemn the genocide on Gaza, and demand an end to U.S. military and political aid to the Israeli state.

The Democratic Party paved the way for Trump and the right wing. Biden, Harris, and the Democrats gifted tens of billions of dollars to the Israeli state to carry out the genocide, which has cost over 400,000 Palestinian lives.

Biden & the Democrats also presided over shocking repression of campus antiwar protests, including violent police crackdown, arrests, and suspensions of university students. We need a new antiwar, working-class party.

We need one-day nationwide coordinated strike action, starting with university campuses.

University of Missouri Students & Workers United (UMSWU) and Workers Strike Back stand in solidarity with UAW members at Columbia and across the nation.

We need mass civil disobedience and mass strike action to fight Trump's attacks & this shocking escalation against workers, unions & the antiwar movement.

“The university administration has maintained this draconian pay pattern for undergraduate and graduate student workers over many years, even though it is the grueling hours of teaching, research, administrative, and other academic work that brings financial gain and academic prestige to the institution. ”

Trump has dramatically escalated the attacks on unions, immigrants, and the antiwar movement, arresting Mahmoud Khalil in his home at Columbia University in retaliation for his involvement in campus antiwar protests. Columbia fired and expelled Grant Miner, President of UAW 2710, the Columbia grad worker union, also for his involvement in the protests.

Trump has been emboldened by the lack of the fightback from Democrats and business unionist leaders. As a result, Trump’s ICE has abducted many more activists, including Tufts University student Rumeysa Ozturk, Badar Khan Suri, Alfredo Juarez, and deported many like Rasha Alawieh.

We need massive protests, civil disobedience, and mass strike actions to Free Rümeysa and Mahmoud and others, stop these abductions, end the genocide, and win what workers need. We need to unite the antiwar and labor movements, and organize independently of the Democratic and Republican Parties.

Join Workers Strike Back!

In order to win real victories like taxing the rich to stop anti-worker attacks and fund what we need, we need working and young people across the country to get involved and organize in their workplaces, campuses, and communities.
