The Democrats are carrying water for corporate landlords and coming after the renters’ rights victories we have won. Their first step is to try and repeal ethics laws that prevent a Councilmember from voting on renter-related legislation if they have landlord interests.
We won victories like the $15/hour minimum wage and the Amazon Tax by taking a fighting approach, often against vicious opposition from the Democratic Party.
PACK CITY HALL! Join us TUESDAY, May 13 @ 2 pm at City Hall (5th & James) or online, to speak in public comment. Tell Seattle City Council: “Hands Off Renters’ Rights — NO to Repealing Ethics Laws!”
Join us to defend our landmark renters’ rights victories:
Cap on late rent fees at $10/month
Six months’ notice for rent increases
Ban on winter evictions
Ban on school-year evictions of children and public-school workers
Cap on total move-in fees (including security deposit) at the equivalent of one-month’s rent
Prohibit rent increases in bad quality housing
Close the loopholes in Seattle’s just-cause protections
Right to a lawyer for all renters facing eviction
Require landlords to provide voter registration information to new tenants.
Please join us in person if possible! If you’re unable to attend in person, we will send instructions for signing up for remote public comment.
